Welcome!
This is The Space Coast Paddlers home page.
Space Coast Paddlers is a canoeing and kayaking club in East Central Florida. We meet the third Wednesday of every month at the Eau Gallie Public Library on Pineapple Avenue just north of Eau Gallie Boulevard and east of US1 in Melbourne. New members are always welcomed! ACA-affiliated.
We sponsor a number of events every month, from short morning and evening trips to longer camping trips. You don't need to be an expert to join us -- many of our members are new boat owners. Everyone from beginners to experts will enjoy our variety of flat water and even occasional whitewater trips. People in the club come from all walks of life and just about every age group is represented. We join together because we love to paddle!
Nationally, the Space Coat Paddlers Club is affiliated with the American Canoe Association (ACA) and on the state level, we've become sponsors of the newly formed Florida Paddling Trails Association (FPTA). This association was inaugurated to coordinate management of the Florida Circumnavigational Saltwater Paddling Trail; volunteers who look after the trail as Trail Keepers and others who volunteer to help as needed. Additionally, the Florida DEP Office of Greenways and Trails maintains 40 paddling trails accessible to paddlers.
The Florida Paddling Trails organization is divided up into segments and three or four segments make up a region. The Space Coast Paddlers Club has volunteered to oversee trail keeping responsibilities for Segment 22 of Region H. Segment 22 stretches from Front Street Park in Melbourne, Florida near the Melbourne Yacht Club and Marina to New Smyrna Dunes Beach and incorporates areas controlled by the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Kennedy Space Center, and the Canaveral National Seashore. The route runs up the Indian River Lagoon and alternatively, the Banana River, and designates several camping sites along the way for multi-day excursions.
Region H is comprised of the three segments 21, 22, and 23. Segment 21 is also along the Indian River Lagoon and runs from Fort Pierce Inlet State Park up to Front Street Park in Melbourne. Segment 23 goes from New Smyrna Dunes Beach up to Matanzas Inlet south of St. Augustine.
Opportunities to help with this statewide initiative will be appearing on the club schedule, so keep posted as we gear up for this exciting endeavor.

"Nice? It's the only thing," said the Water Rat solemnly, as he leaned forward for his stroke.
"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats....
In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's the charm of it.
Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else,
or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular;
and when you've done it there's always something else to do,
and you can do it if you like, but you'd much better not."
